ABOUT ABOUT

The Tamaulipan thorn forest is one of the Valley’s most endangered ecosystems—rich in biodiversity, yet still largely misunderstood. Dr. Christoffersen, a professor at UTRGV and long-time researcher of this unique habitat, will take guests on a journey into the inner workings of these forests. Drawing from years of long-term studies, he will share new insights into how thorn forests grow, adapt, and recover—and how these lessons can help guide meaningful restoration efforts.

Dr. Christoffersen’s research is rooted in a transdisciplinary approach, blending ecological theory with hands-on fieldwork, experimental restoration, and data modeling. Whether through measuring seedling growth, monitoring climate responses, or experimenting with revegetation strategies, his team’s work aims to bring both science and hope to one of South Texas’s most fragile landscapes.
